Lydia Bauman. Born in Warsaw, Poland, now living and working in Britain. Lydia has B.A in Fine Art, University of Newcastle upon Tyne (John Christie Scholarship, The Hatton Award, Newcastle University), M.A History of Art, Courtauld Institute of Art (1st class honours with Distinction). Since then has worked for BBC Radio External Services, and lectured at numerous institutions and art galleries such as the Tate Gallery, National Portrait Gallery and the National Gallery where she works to-date. Collections of Lydias work can be seen at United Airlines, Warner Bros, Saatchi and Saatchi, Trevor Nunn, Deutsche Bank, Freshfields and Dorchester Hotel to name but a few. Lydia was also commissioned for Gordon Ramseys ‘La Noisette’ restaurant where you can see a spectacular 16’ landscape and two 4’ by 4’ works.Lydia specialises as a landscape artist whose interest is form defined by light. The works are of natural elements which are painted in repetition or geometrically and in a figurative and abstract style. Lydia characterises the panels with varied marks and textures achieved by a complex and unique mixed media technique combining plaster, resin, wax, sand, acrylic texture gels and pigments.


JON THOMPSON.jpg Jon Thompson. Being born and raised in Shropshire it is of no surprise that the landscape and weather has a big influence in Jons work. Jon strives to embrace the qualities of space, light and movement but mostly the interplay between weather and landscape. He paints generously and his passion and inspiration is working from direct exposure to the land which he clearly captures in his exciting and dramatic landscapes.Jon has exhibited throughout the UK. His paintings can be found in collections as far a field as New Zealand. Recent exhibitions include group and solo exhibitions with the Great Atlantic Galleries, Chelsea Old Town Hall - May 2009, further exhibitions in 2009 include Bath Fine Art and The Albany Gallery Cardiff.


60881238413583LUNNAugustus11.09s.jpg Augustus Lunn. Born in Preston and moved to Surbiton in 1918. A key figure in the revival of tempera painting in Britain. Lunn studied at Kingston School of Art and was awarded a scholarship to Royal Academy where he won the Edward Abbey Mural Scholarship. He then went on to teach at Kingston School of Art.

85421238441054BABAZONsmal.jpg In 1840 Hercules Brabazon was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge where he studied mathematics. He later entered the legal profession but against his fathers wishes travelled to Rome where he lived and worked for three years to pursue his love of painting. As he had inherited wealth Brabazon never considered exhibiting or selling any works and always thought of himself an amateur giving away his drawings. In 1892 he was persuaded at the age of 71 to have his first one-man exhibition.

What is Ali Baba's Mausoleum, and how does the character weave its way through her thundering horses and architectural fantasies? We are left to pursue our own interpretations. The images start in reality: portraits of her horses, her husband and various models, including the beautiful youth who models for Ali Baba.

8058123867229560.09WARDJohnA.jpg John Ward trained at Camberwell School of Art and Crafts in London in 1966 and has now been potting for over 30 years.
His own statement reads: ‘My aim is to make pots which have simple forms with integral decoration; to try to express a balance between the dynamic qualities which form and decoration can evoke, and a sense of stillness. Form above all but expressed through light and colour. Function is not my main concern. There is something compelling about the making of pots regardless of function which keeps me within this particular sphere; they are the focus of so many interests and associations.’

He has over many years studied and developed his very own unique ceramic style using a combination of ancient Greek technique with a contemporary pattern. Duncan makes earthenware terra-sigillata smoke fired ceramics in Surrey in the UK. He exhibits widely in the UK and abroad and has work in collections around the world. Duncan is a Selected Maker on The Crafts Council of Great Britian Slide Index and a Fellow of the Craft Potters Association of Great Britain

During the late 50s she developed and produced her work in a style that was recognisably her own unique style. She is best known today for the black and white works of geometric form that produce a sensation of movement or colour. It was in the early 80s that she began to explore colour and contrast.

27641238440750LUCIEATTWELLMabel31sml.jpg Mabel Lucie Attwell was born in London. She was 16 years old when she went to college at the Regent School of Art and Heatherleys School of Art. Neither course were completed as she disliked the formal training and copying involved. Having enough of her own imaginative drawings of fairies and children Mabel Lucie Attwell she took the drawings to agencies to be published. Between 1905 and 1913 Attwell had illustrated for ten books and was illustrating for postcards and greetings cards in 1911. She was to become a very well known and popular illustrator who was commercially successful.

In 1970-73 Peter Beard studied design and furniture design at Ravesbourne College of Art in London where he had an interest in ceramics. It was in 1973 in Scotland that he helped set up a pottery which made thrown domestic stoneware and developed his interest in designing sculptural pieces and one-off pots. He opened his first studio in 1975 in Kent and later moved to Leamington Spa in 1995. Since 1975 Peter has exhibited over 45 one man shows throughout the world.

65201238413598BlameyNorman35.09s.jpg Norman Charles Blamey, educated at Holloway School, London then at Regent Street Polytechnic School of Art 1931-37, where he taught after serving his military service during World War II. A regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy, he became an Associate in 1970 and an Academician in 1975. His style was generally realism though varied slightly during different periods. Blamey was influenced by Stanley Spencer and also 15th century Flemish art. During the latter period of his career he was commissioned by a series of portraits which can be seen in the Halls of a number of Colleges of the University of Oxford. He was awarded the O.B.E. in 1999.

She studied at Goldsmith’s College and followed this with an MA degree at the Royal College of Art. During this period Jenny was awarded the 1987 Basil Alkazzi Travel Scholarship to Greece and the 1988 Rome Scholarship in Painting which made a significant contribution to the development of her work.  Jenny began making solo exhibitions in 1989. Having childhood memories of growing up in Africa the colours and lights in the African landscapes have fuelled Jennys’ works.

He was the last of the great Victorian travelling artists. Goodwin had shows at the Royal Academy and also at the Watercolour Society where he was a member.

In 1961 Gordon began his art studies at Central School of Art, London until 1964 where he then went to New York and continued studies at Brooklyn Museum Art School. Taking part in his first collective exhibition in London in 1964 Gordon went on to exhibit consistently from then throughout USA. He then moved to France in 1986 and continues to exhibit in France. Gordon Hart artistic style is abstract, he uses mixed/multi media to create his own textures and layered individual style.

He was an apprentice photo-lithographer at W.S.Cowells, Ipswich, with whom he also exhibited watercolours.In 1952 David was influenced by the works of Nicholas de Stael and from then on he painted abstract. His was best renowned for his collages, using many different materials and colours to produce his works.

He became an art director of Selznick Pictures when he was 17. In 1924 he moved to Paris to work. Al Hirschfeld has an amazing fan following as can be seen on his website www.alhirschfeld.com

His first one-man exhibition was in 1984 and he is presently to this day exhibiting. He has been increasingly become more in demand. Nicholas has regularly exhibited in London, Dublin and Hong Kong. Some of Nicholas’ work features in a range of cards and posters published by various companies.

His influences also varied throughout the different periods of his life.  Hooper had little recognition until later in his life. Hoopers colourful creations can be found in the Victoria & Albert Museum, the British Museum and public galleries in Brighton, Hove, Eastbourne and Hull.

It was not a good time for him and after failing his first year he returned for the following year but with a friend he decided to sign up for the British Army for 9 months. Peter then took on various local jobs but eventually went back to his art studies and graduated in 1981. He has had a hugely successful period with his art but has had difficult times also.

His first solo exhibition was 1980 in Glasgow. The inspiration for his artistic skills is from Continental European and English artists of the early part of the twentieth century. He describes himself as a ‘modernist at heart’.

She then completed her MA at Chelsea School of Art in London in 1985. Emma has exhibited in many exhibitions and galleries in London, Cornwall and Suffolk.

Her paintings have been exhibited in the BP National Portrait Competition, National Portrait Gallery and in 1991 she received the Llewellyn Alexander award for the Discerning Eye competition. She has held Solo shows in London as well as several Group shows. Donna's first solo exhibition was in 1994.

He fought in WWI fom 1916 to 1918 with the Artists Rifles and worked as an official war artist from 1918, and then did so again in 1940 during WWII with the rank of Captain in the Royal Marines. He has exhibited his art from 1913 and his most famous painting ‘Over the Top’ is now in the Imperial War Museum, London.

He came to the attention of the public by leaving thousands of his paintings on the streets in London for anyone to just take home. Adams art is very much the new contemporary street graffiti style. The majority of his pieces are painted on cardboard and he will use aerosols, marker pens, with acrylic and gloss paints.

It was in 1979 when John retired from the City and began to paint full time amassing quite a collection.  His works are included in numerous collections worldwide.

81301238413566PIPERJohn34.09s.jpg Born in Epsom, Surrey. John Piper entered the Richmond School of Art in 1926 and then the Royal College of Art. In 1944 he was commissioned to record bomb damage and was made an official war artist. His work was diverse in as much as he also was an author and photographer as well as designing scenery and costumes for ballets and theatre, and fabrics, tapestries and ceramics.

99621238413565POTTERMary30.09s.jpg Mary Potter studied at Beckenham School of Art in 1916, at the Slade school under Tonks and Steer 1918-20.  She lived in Chiswick, London and then later in Aldeburgh where she was a close friend of Benjamin Britten. She exhibited at the NEAC from 1920, and held her first solo exhibition at the Bloomsbury Gallery in 1931. Her work was also exhibited at the Tate Gallery in 1980 where it is represented in a public collection. Marys works are influenced by Klee and by oriental painting.

He was then commissioned to create a wall mosaic for a new Basilica in Nazareth, Israel. He then taught a various art colleges. Rooney’s solo exhibitions began in 1965 at the Fulham Gallery, London. His work has been shown in top galleries and museums in Europe including the Royal Academy. Rooney’s work has been described as narrative, illustrative and magical and is know for its vivid personages.

After leaving school at the age of 15 and undertaking various jobs as shop assistant, window cleaner, floor polisher Christopher Thompson continued to draw. Thompson then studied at Grimsby School of Art, Norwich School of Art and graduated from Royal Academy in 1997. Thompson began exhibiting in 1993 and continues to do so regularly.

He took up painting seriously in 1929 and exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1931. His first major exhibition in 1932 featured still life, landscape and marine scenes, but from mid 1930s John began to paint abstract.

He has been awarded various awards and his works have been included in collections in National Portrait Gallery. Antony was commissioned for a portrait of HM The Queen in 1996. He works almost exclusively in egg tempera which can be a painstaking and exacting medium, but allows him to express a deep feeling. All his work is based on direct and intense observation, which can produce a very heightened sense of realism. Antony has exhibited in both Spain and London.
